YOU'RE LIKE THIS AXE!
YOU ARE LIKE THIS AXE!
An axe man wanted to fell a tree in
order to obtain wood for his usual economic activities. He moved into his store
room where he had a collection of different hand-axes to pick one which he
considered could do the job.
Looking at his collection, he finally
selected a small-looking axe. Eventually, the axe succeeded in completing the
job but unfortunately it took a wrong turn. The axe ascribed credits of the job
to itself, telling its owner that “he deserved the credits”.
The axe-man became furious on hearing
this and seeing the axe’s conduct. He took it back to his store room and showed
him other axes that appeared bigger, sharper and better. The axe man (pointing
to the axes) said “they are useless without me. You should be grateful I made
use of you!”. The axe man in anger resorted to dismantling the axe, removing
the axe head from the wooden handle never to be used again.
Isaiah
10:15 – ‘Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? Or shall
the saw magnify itself aganst him that shaketh it? As if the rod should shake
itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself,
as if it were no wood’.
Many
a time and oft, we behave like this axe. We forget that it’s only God’s grace that selects
us to be used as instruments in his hand to meet several needs. Rather than
thank Him for the privilege to serve and be used by Him, we raise our shoulders,
wanting to take the credit or glory, something that belongs to God. We forget
that there are other people in the ‘store room’ waiting to be used (who may
even appear better than we are).
Like the axe failed to learn, “we are
nothing but useless without Him”. Before we raise our shoulders, let’s remember
He owns our lives and He has the breath of life that keeps use alive!
