QUIT WASTEFULNESS, START GIVING! (Vol. 2)
THERE'S NO POINT KEEPING YOUR 'EXCESSES'
Like I always love being practical about issues such as this, this volume promises not to be an exception. We’ll be looking at just one story out of the numerous cases we have in our society. Do well to get the message and learn the vital lessons.
The series 'QUIT WASTEFULNESS, START GIVING' is geared at eliminating 'excuses' some people give in order to boycott giving to the poor and needy. It’s also our goal to see to development of the habit of giving among individuals. This is in line with the blog’s vision to touch lives positively. You’ll agree with me that ‘giving’ is one of the ways to make positive impact. Let’s make giving our business!
Coming back to today’s volume, we'll be laying emphasis and placing our focus on ‘GIVING OUT YOUR EXCESSES'.
Here comes the short story:
Peterson had just returned back from work with two loaves of bread. It was barely up to 5 minutes before he heard the sound of car horns at his gate. He rushed to find out who it was. It was his bosom friend, Johnson. Johnson just dropped by to say hello before heading for his usual Friday Tennis training. Like it was his 'tradition', he never visited empty-handed. This time, he purchased two loaves of bread, keeping one for himself and giving the other to Peterson.
Peterson made efforts to refuse the loaf stating he had purchased two loaves less than 30mins ago but Johnson insisted saying “It’s his”. Peterson eventually accepted the loaf of bread with hopes that he was going to preserve the three loaves pending the time before their consumption.
Their discussion lasted for about 15 minutes & Peterson was back to the loaves of bread. He succeeded in consuming one loaf in two days thinking he could achieve the same feet with the others but days rolled into weeks and the two loaves of bread that were left to be ‘preserved’ got bad.
The sad news is that about approximately the same time, Peterson’s next-door neighbors prayed for just one loaf of bread (as feeding for them had now become difficult due to the loss of the bread-winner's job). Peterson could have been the answer to their prayer if only he had welcomed ideas of giving his 'excesses' out. He could have probably just asked them if they needed a loaf or just handed it over without questions.
Many a times, we fall guilty of similar situations. We have certain items (not necessarily food) which we either have in excess or no longer in use. We let ourselves to be deceived by the expression “I’ll use them later” when we know deep down that we have doubts of never using them.
I’m sure you have clothes and shoes you’ve outgrown but still look good and presentable. Rather than ‘build museums' with them, let’s channel our thoughts in the right direction by giving them out to those who’ll need and appreciate them. Don’t bother your head whether they’ll need it or not. Just give it a try! Give it to them! Don’t assume! There’ll always be someone in need of them.
What’s your gain if you burn the items or leave them to grow bad? But you sure do have a lot to gain when you give them out! Blessings from God…A feeling of happiness that you’ve touched a life positively and a smile on your face knowing you were able to put one on someone’s face!
SO START GIVING AWAY YOUR EXCESSES!
QUIT WASTEFULNESS, START GIVING!!!
