BLIND EYES OR BLIND MIND; WHICH IS OUR PROBLEM?

It baffles me when I see how God could be this awesome and amazing in creation. I'm usually wowed when I see the blind daring unbelievable things that we would had written them off.

Although, visually impaired,  some of them are not skills, gifts or talents impaired! It's true that we all were born with several measures of talents and gifts but not skills. Some people fail to use these things in full capacities or maximize them to yield progressive  results. It's fascinating when the blind choose not to do the afore mentioned.

It therefore calls for an article such as this : BLIND EYES OR BLIND MIND, WHICH IS THE PROBLEM?

I was surprised when I discovered my roommate was a blind guy. It was my first time hearing and witnessing this in the tertiary institution. I thought he was a fellow freshman only to be told that he was a final year political science student. Although stunned at the hearing of this, I picked interest in discovering how he could had coped and conducted himself in school all these while.

I began to watch him closely.  Then, I discovered he has adapted to his lifestyle. In summary, I learnt a lot from my experience him. He was amazing to watch. He challenged me positively a lot of times. His lifestyle was just beautiful! He did the normal things we did as his roommates. He knew exactly where all his belongings were, he cooked his meals,  washed his clothes and swept his corner.

Doesn't sound so fascinating yet?  Okay, go on.  He was current with news and happenings around the world, He used his laptop and typed very well, He could analyze football matches pretty good, his relationship with God was intact and he knew exactly whatever was going on in the room (his predictions were over 90% accurate). On several occasions, he had taught several lessons in Church. Academically, his game was up!

How was he able to combine all these things together to be the amazing person he is today? It was so obvious that he was a man with blind eyes but a good mind! It sent me thinking.

To the blind, the whole have no excuse in affecting our world positively. They only feel the world. They don't see it. Being visually impaired teaches you to use your other senses properly. Your sense of touch, taste, smell and hearing becomes extra active. (The fact that we are not impaired of any of these senses tends to make us want to either abuse them or fail to appreciate them).

I can recall vividly that he had a radio which he always listened to to remain updated with world news and events including football match coverages, analysis and news.

He challenged me to keep up with world news as well. He related with his friends that came visiting very well. There was no inferiority complex. It is therefore important to show love and care to not just the blind but the physically challenged ones in general to boost their self esteem and confidence because they play a major role in positively affecting our society.

A typical example is COHBAMS ASUQUO, a popular and brilliant artiste and music producer in Nigeria. He plays the Piano very well. He's affected a lot of lives positively and brought about healthy challenges.

Also,  I've watched a blind man use his gift of singing beautifully well to minister in Church. It was a fabulous evening!

The other day, it was amazing watching a blind guy fix faulty technological gadgets on TV. If they can go through the difficult training to acquire these skills,  how much more the whole?

Let's stop being lazy and get to being productive! Together we can affect our society for the better.  The blind don't have the active eyes. You have them but do you have a good mind?

If no, fix it! That's the problem!
