PRACTICAL WAYS TO ACADEMIC SUCCESS

I'M TIRED OF LOW GRADES! I NEED ACADEMIC SUCCESS.

Who doesn't want to be successful? Do you want to be a failure? From here, it's a big no! I'm sure you desire good success in your academics and life as a whole. Academic excellence is a feature that makes certain individuals outstanding and worthy of awards & honors.

Apart from that, it sparks up your dreams into fulfilling your ambitions as a student. Some people have struggled to attain this height of academic success for certain reasons and wrong decisions. I hope that stops after reading this article.

This article you're reading will expose you to truths and practical ways of how this goal can be attained. This article also holds a treasure chest of secrets that have changed average students and outright failures into high soaring students and highly successful people at different levels in life. Put into action the following tips and get ready to fly high!

Decide

Decide? to do what? Take that first bold step to decide and make up your mind to be an academically excellent person. Change your wrong notions and mindset, choose to wear the clothes of positivity and possibility.

"Don't wait and see what tomorrow brings, rather decide what happens". Also " Life never gives you what you deserve but what you decide". If you think it's possible, work towards it & achieve it!

Pray

Pray to God. You think you don't need supernatural help in your quest for academic excellence? You do! 'With God all things are possible' remember? I'll tell you reasons why you need Him and prayers to offer.
*He's All-knowing
*He's ever ready to help you out
*He created you with abilities to succeed.

In your quest, certain things are important in this regard. Working without putting these things into prayers would mean limiting yourself. 'A prayerful preparation prevents poor performance'.

Knowledge - for retainment and remembrance of what you've read and been taught as well as hunger for information.

Strength & speed - to cover as many pages as fast as possible in the shortest possible time especially when you have voluminous books to read or a lot of things to do. You also need this during examination conditions to fast track answering your questions & double-check your answers.

Wisdom - for counsel and guidance on how to answer questions in the best possible way & maintain focus. Examiners look out for how student present their answer when they mark heap of answer booklets. Your wisdom stand you out here!

Direction & accuracy - sometimes, you'll be faced with situations where you'll have to cover a lot of pages without enough time. At such a point, all you need is the right direction (not a guess that could be wrong an put you in trouble) on topics/areas to read that are accurate. How beautiful it would be when it happens! (speaking from experience).

Power - When I'm talking about power in this regard, I'm not referring to powers to cast out demons but power to conquer examination fever & illness that can ruin one's good preparations. You also need it for speed.

Understanding - This prevents you from cramming that can lead to forgetfulness under exam conditions. 'What you understand is what you can remember easily, relate with & pen down better'. This is when what you read makes sense to you especially with 'difficult' subjects or courses.
Excellence - ability to right your thoughts, opinions and answers accurately without making silly mistakes.

Fear of God - to overcome the temptation of examination malpractices that can land you into big problems.
They could be more.

Set targets

'If you don't know where you're going, you'll end up anywhere'
You need to plan ahead and very well. Have a good foresight. Don't settle for less or low grades. You're worth more than that! What's wrong with getting the good and high grades? remember point 1 'Decide'. You can make a lists of your targets in all your courses and subjects. Here's a helpful tip: Have a 10marks/% oversight in your target in case something goes wrong, you'll still be on a good grade. I'll explain. I need @ least 70% in Mathematics to get an A. I'll place my targets on getting 80-85%. It's that simple.

Be Motivated
I've heard some of my friends and other students say 'I don't feel like reading', 'I hate attending that class', 'this subject or course is boring'. All these point to lack of motivation or laziness.

Discover just that thing that keeps you going especially moments when you want to give in or give up. For some students, it will surprise you to know that it's the love for their parents that keeps them going. For some it could be their ambitions in life. I'll advice you go as far as writing what motivates you on a paper and paste it somewhere you can read it every morning or having it  on your phone's wallpaper. These things have a way of driving you to action. Also, associate yourself with friends that encourage and motivate you.

Discover yourself

Know what works for you. Don't compare yourself with others. You're unique! I've discovered that our study patterns vary. Take out time to know which ever suits you and help you attain your desired progress. Some students prefer to burn the midnight candle, some prefer to read very early in the morning (from dawn), some study even with music, Some study in the midst of noise, some are library lovers among others.

Attend classes

If you've been doing this regularly 'thumbs up'. Don't relent because it holds lot of  benefits. If you haven't, please learn to do so. Go to class with the attitude to learn something new.

Here are some benefits you may overlook when talking about attendance in classes.
1. The foundation for your course and topics are laid and this gives you an 'idea' of what you'll be doing.
2. This idea you get is key to fostering your understanding.
3. Explanations are given by your teachers/lecturers in areas of doubt or lack of understanding.
4. You get marks. Most teachers and lecturers make use of attendance in classes to award marks to their students especially in low populated classes. You never can tell how important these marks would be.
5. You get to meet those (other students) to help you out with explanations or class-related questions.
6. You don't get to loose marks for impromptu tests that could come up.

This leads me to my next point. It's not just enough to attend classes, it's much more important to be active and attentive in class.

Avoid distractions and side-talks that can hinder your focus and fast assimilation. While in class, take down important notes that may not be included in the teacher's/ lecturer's notes. Try to write your jottings in your own words to enhance better understanding.

You won't get killed for asking questions in class rather it clears your doubts and makes learning better. So, feel free to ask your teachers or lecturers questions in areas of shallow understanding.

Study

This is very crucial! Take out time not just to read but study your books. Those who study hard come out excellently well. Below are study tips that would help you tremendously.
• One thing students fail to do is to start studying early enough. Study your books daily. Don't wait till exam or test periods before deciding to study. That way, you'll be piling up several topics thus increasing the risk of not being able to cover as much topics as possible.
• When studying, study with the mind to understand and not 'cram'. cramming makes you forget easily but understanding it sticks with you.
• The higher you go, the tougher it becomes so get ready to increase your study time!
• Mark out a study timetable . It's highly beneficial.
• Study with your total focus and seriousness. Avoid distractions. • Make important jottings while studying.
• Make out time to rest when you feel a little bit tired but be sure to get back to reading (Don't be lazy).
• Include a period of revision for every study time. It serves as self-evaluation.
• Don't see any topic as irrelevant because you just might be shocked to see them in your examination. Try your best to cover everything.
• Don't force study. Enjoy it!

By taking the above tips into consideration and putting them into action, you're on your way to academic excellence.

Engage in group discussions

Some students may not like this but I've discovered it's highly helpful. It exposes you to ideas from other students, better explanations, covers areas you might not have read, comprehensive revision, enables you to compare notes and materials and  broadens your perspectives. Also, sometimes you can recall what a particular person might have said during the discussion and that helps you to answer some  questions.

Group discussions should be done with the mind of learning, selflessness, good expression and humility. Feel free and ask questions! Anything outside these things will ruin them.

Seek 'good' advice and experience

From who? from previous students 'seniors' that have gone through similar courses/topics or passed through such situations. Pick out the helpful things you'll need from your conversations with them. Never be proud or shy to ask them questions when in doubt either in class or regarding topics you're finding sort of difficult. 'Good students ask questions'. Also, gather as much information, materials and past questions from them as well.

Feed well

It is at this point that what goes on in the stomach affects your brain. You'll agree with me that you're less active and you assimilate less when you're hungry. It's natural! So take that step to feed well before going to class or before studying. Check out some food to take to enhance sharp brains.

Avocados, broccoli, Green vegetables, Egg yolks, dark chocolates, walnuts among others.
