WHAT I MISS ABOUT CHILDHOOD

Every teenager and adult in our world today started from the level of childhood. When I'm referring to childhood in this context, I'm talking about persons between ages 0 - 12 years. Childhood was indeed associated with a lot of benefits some of which we miss greatly. Presently, we all are related to children. We either have them as nieces, nephews, 'children' (parents), friends, students, siblings neighbors among others. When we have them around us, we tend to play with them or access them and sometimes we smile telling ourselves 'We've been there before' or 'we've done worse things'. This sends us thinking back to when we were kids!
Below are some things we miss about childhood. Some of them differ based on the environment while others are general cases. These things will definitely create a flashback, make you smile, remember beautiful moments, appreciate your childhood better and help make children around the world enjoy theirs!

1. Birthday parties

There's a whole lot of difference between partying within ages 5-10 & partying as a teenager or an adult. Some people may argue on which level has the best of fun but partying as child holds a whole lot of fun! The very funny & inexperienced dance steps, interesting games to play & Clowns to play with (and sometimes to be scared of 'laughs').

Then, you were invited to parties very often. Sometimes every week & other times on fortnight basis. I couldn't imagine a party without cakes, chocolates, sweets, drinks and goody bags. Not having any of this was awful!

2. Innocence

You think I'm guilty right? (smiles). The truth is 'the older the grow, the more exposed & experienced you become'. A lot of things definitely unfold & you can no longer be place on the list of top innocent ones. I'll explain. Do you remember the times you ran around the house without wearing clothes or even wanting to wear your pants? I bet you can try that now *winks*.

Any attempt to try that now on the streets would mean getting arrested by the police, assumed as a mentally retarded person or end up been very embarrassed when it gets to social media platforms. You definitely wouldn't want that.
Still talking about innocence, they have little or no thoughts about sexual activities when they go about their daily activities. Their behaviors also reflects innocence to a large extent.

3. Simplicity of Relationships

Children make friends easily without thinking of heart breaks and all that. They are usually simple and straight with words to parents & people around. Children forgive easily much more than adults therefore avoiding malice. Children tend to love people much more than adults. They have little or no hate for people. Children are also very free set of persons.

4. Easy, simple & stress-free lifestyles.
Children have little or nothing to think about for so long, have less worries, have over 60% of things done for them. I had more nap-time & enough time to rest.

Imitating Parents on how they go about their responsibilities usually reflected in Children plays (commonly called mummy & daddy). Learning was much more easier because they could relate fast with the things they saw and heard. This made school fun!

5. Better attention & affection.

Looking at the picture above alone, it's clear and you'll agree with me that you enjoyed more pampering from your parents as a child compared to recent times. We were used to the 'I'll tell my mummy for you' sentence. Mothers are usually in the fore front of it all when it comes to matters of affection but this is not to completely rule out the attention and affection shown by fathers.

We had so much confidence in our parents that at the slightest scare or problem, we would run to them for cover. I also recall moments as a child when my parents chose to get me the same clothing materials & designs as they did for themselves. We looked good together. Although it still happens today, it's at minimal rate.

Talking about attention, we've attracted the attention of not only our parents and relatives but that of strangers as well several times by reason of the fact that we were children.

6. Cute, Clear & Smooth skin

This is one good thing people's minds may not take them to but it's something worth-missing. Although some people may argue this out but the fact still remains that your skin can never be as perfect as your early childhood days.
I see a lot of females today wearing heavy makeover to cover up their rough & not so cute faces. Children have very little or no need at all of these things and someone will tell me he or she doesn't miss childhood? That's obviously going to be a lie.

7. Cartoons

My sister didn't watch much of cartoons because she didn't like them so much. I think it's a common feature among female children. When it comes to cartoons, boys were usually at the fore front. We paid our total attention to them, knew their soundtracks and characters.

Saturday morning was usually the perfect time to watch a lot of them ranging from Tom & Jerry, the lion king, pinky and the brain, Ben 10, X- men, Power rangers, spiderman, Batman, Sonic, Spongebob, Turbo dogs, scooby doo among others. I remember wanting a spider to bite me because I wanted to be spiderman.

I also loved to put on my then 'Ben 10' wrist watch. Cartoons were much more meaningful, worth-time consuming and enjoyable than now. I recall crying on some occasions while pleading with mum or dad not to change the cartoon channel.

If there was anything else that got me glued to the TV apart from football, then it had to be cartoons! I bet you can barely spend ample time watching them now.

8. More playtime with self, friends and neighbors

Presently, we can still boast of having some playtime with friends and neighbors but it's nothing compared to childhood.

Now, a lot of activities have eaten out of the 'usual' playtime. We are  now busy with academic pursuit & other things and when we finally set out to play, we do it with maturity. I miss the days of using the swing, horse-rides, Merry go-round, seesaw, playing with bubbles and running after balloons. I remember playing with clay as well to make cups, stones, spoon and so on. I miss playing with water whenever it was time to have my bath. As a Nigerian child, I cannot but recall games like 'Suwe', 'who is in the garden', 'hide and seek' 'i call on', 'tinko tinko', 'mummy in the kitchen' among others. I enjoyed playing some of these games with my sister. The list is numerous! When you talk about playtime, you're referring to Childhood!
